OHNY Family Festival
Bring your kids and enjoy various hands-on building, design and construction activities organized by OHNY and the Center For Architecture Foundation. Create your own beautiful stained glass window with the Eldridge Street Synagogue. Design your own gargoyle with the help of Friends of the Upper East Side Historic Districts. Build and decorate your own boat with materials from the Noble Maritime Collection. Fashion your own set of keys that unlock special places with No Longer Empty and create the ship of your dreams with the help of staff from the BLDG 92 in the Brooklyn Navy Yard.
The family festival will be held on both Saturday and Sunday during OHNY Weekend, October 6th & 7th, at the Center for Architecture (536 LaGuardia Place). Please note that activities provided on each day will vary. Click here to read more.
Park Avenue Armory Explorers
Join a treasure hunt through the historic rooms of the Park Avenue Armory. Uncover some of the building’s unique architectural details. Using the castle-like surroundings as inspiration, participants will create their own works of art that reflect the qualities of the American Aesthetic Movement. For children ages 6-12.
Park Avenue Armory offers monthly family programs that encourage both children and adults to interact with and respond to the Armory’s contemporary artistic programs. Learn more about the family programming that is offered at the Park Avenue Armory.
Children’s Museum of the Arts Skyscraper Building Workshop
Have you ever wanted to design a new building in New York City? Now is your chance to be your own architect! With the help of the teaching assistants at the Children’s Museum of the Arts, create your own skyscraper model out of cardboard, wire and tape. Children of all ages are welcome.
Origamic Architecture at the Japan Society
Artist Yoshiko Ebihara will present workshops on how to make origamic architecture at the Japan Society during OHNY Weekend. Participants will mix the traditional Japanese craft of papercutting and folding with concepts of modern architecture to create one-of-a-kind take home art. Work by Ebihara and her assistants will also be on view throughout OHNY Weekend. Because of the complexity of this activity, it is for ages 16 and up.
Shapes and Colors at Eldridge Street
Bring your budding artist, designers and mathematicians to explore the shapes, patterns and colors of the glorious Eldridge Street Synagogue. Kids will hunt for shapes, identify patterns and create colorful artwork of their own. Design for children ages 4-8.
All of these kids programs and more will be part of the 2012 OHNY Weekend, October 6 & 7, 2012. All listing details for OHNY Weekend will go live on our website in late September. Please check back then for specific dates, times and information about advance reservations, if required.
